About This Project
This was a simple solar flashlight build. A small solar panel charges a lithium battery, but I put a diode in between them so current can only flow one way — that way the battery can't accidentally drain back through the panel when it's dark out.
The battery then powers an LED, and I added a plastic cover over it to spread out and soften the light instead of just having one harsh point of light.
It's a pretty basic circuit, but it was a good way to actually build something with solar charging instead of just talking about it.
Technical Challenges
Making sure the diode was actually stopping the battery from draining backward through the panel at night, and picking a plastic cover that spread the light out without making it too dim.
What I Learned
Learned how diodes actually protect a circuit in practice, not just on paper, and got more comfortable wiring together a full solar-to-battery-to-LED circuit.
Project Goal
Built a solar-powered flashlight: a solar panel charges a battery through a diode, which powers a diffused LED.
Engineering Focus
Focused on diode protection, battery charging, and diffusing LED light with a plastic cover.
